John Berton is a true pioneer of the digital revolution in cinema, beginning with his work developing CGI in the early 1980s. He is now one of the motion picture industry’s most experienced practitioners of digital filmmaking techniques. Berton worked for ground-breaking visual effects studio Industrial Light and Magic for 12 years, starting in 1990 with the team that created the effects for Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He supervised ILM’s work for three blockbusting effects films between 1999 and 2003. Berton and his crew were named Finalists at the Visual Effects Branch “Bake-off” for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 1999 for The Mummy and again in 2002 for Men in Black II. Berton also supervised Charlotte’s Web at Paramount Pictures and Bedtime Stories at Walt Disney Pictures. His most recent work will be seen in Season 4 of Th1rteen R3asons Why, just released on Netflix. In addition to his work in Feature Films and Episodic Cinema, he has been working to develop new visual effects techniques for live-action 6DoF Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (AR) productions and applications of Machine Learning to Visual Effects techniques. John is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The British Academy of Film and Television and The Visual Effects Society.
